Pronation
What's pronation?
Pronation
is simply your normal foot motion - from foot-strike on the outside of the heel
through the inward roll of the foot. Imagine sitting in a chair with both feet
flat on the floor. Keeping your lower leg still, roll your foot back and forth
from its outer edge (little toe side) to its inner edge (big toe side).
Overpronation occurs as the foot rolls from the outer edge to the inner edge.
Supination occurs as it rolls from the inner edge to the outer edge. The foot is
considered Neutral when it is directly below the lower leg and not rolling.
Everyone pronates, and the initial pronation is considered an important and
healthy response to the intense amount of shock imposed upon the foot and is
integral to propelling you forward. If the foot pronates too much (or too
little) and does so on a regular basis, several biomechanical problems may
result that will cause a decrease in performance and increase the possibility of
injury. This is why we consider it critical to design products with varying
degrees of shock absorption and pronation control.
